Revelation 19-20 Jesus Wins: The Final Battle

I wonder if you have heard the word “TEOTWAWKI.” I think that’s how it’s pronounced: “teo-twa-kee.” It’s an acronym using the first letters of the phrase “The End Of The World As We Know It.” That’s a song from the 80s by a band called REM. The phrase, and the abbreviation, have become internet slang used by people who are preparing for the end of the world.

Revelation 17-18 Jesus Wins: Babylon’s Fall

From the News
Two things in the news caught my attention this week, and I couldn’t help but connect them to our Bible passage for today.

The first story had to do with pop music princess Ariana Grande. Now, I’ll quickly admit that I know virtually nothing about Ariana Grande. I’ve probably heard some of her music, but if you played me 5 different songs by 5 different women, I doubt I could identify which one was hers. I’m not really all that interested in Ariana Grande.

Revelation 14-16 *Jesus Wins: On God’s Wrath *

A Somber, but True, Subject
Today we are going to talk about a somber, but true, subject. Today we are going to talk about God’s wrath.

The Bible, as a whole, is good news. But it is only good news as we realize how insistent the Bible is on our guilt and condemnation. The good news doesn’t make much sense apart from the bad news.

Revelation 10-11 Jesus Wins: Witness

Pastor Mehdi Dibaj of Iran was on trial for his life. An upper-class Muslim, he and his family had converted to Christianity. He had dared to translate Christian radio programs and books into the Farsi language. He was arrested in 1985 and accused of apostasy, denying the Muslim faith. For this, he faced the death penalty.

Revelation 6-7 Jesus Wins: The Problem of Evil

What’s Going On?
There is a question that looms over all of Revelation: Why is there so much evil in the world?

Last week, we witnessed the concert of the ages taking place in heaven as Jesus’ great victory is celebrated by every segment of creation. We were reminded of the victory of the cross, as Jesus became a slain lamb in order to be a triumphant lion. But if Jesus has won, why doesn’t it look like it?

Revelation 4 & 5 Jesus Wins: The Throne

A Hunger For God
I want to create within us a yearning for God.

That’s my goal for us this morning. I want us to come away from our time together with a heart-hunger for Jesus Christ. I want us to see Jesus as irresistibly admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. I want us to long to serve and honor and worship Him more. I want us to be revived and renewed in our commitment to Him.

Revelation 2-3 Report Cards

Report Cards
I was one of those weird kids who looked forward to report card day. I’ve always been highly competitive, and the thing that I was best at was schoolwork. So I always looked forward to the day that grades came out and I could compare my grades to my buddies; because, usually, my grades were better than theirs. (You’ll find this hard to believe, but I could be pretty obnoxious as a kid.)
